I have a small series of questions pertaining to the plot.
In the POTC universe that we all know, the HMS Dauntless was in fact sunk by a hurricane off the coast of Tripoli. So I'm just looking for confirmation: in this alternate universe, was the Dauntless only thought to have been destroyed? What really happened to it? How was it salvaged? And how did Beckett get his hands on it in order to return it to Norrington?
I read the plot, and I'm nearly positive I already know the answer to this. I'm just making sure.

Aha! I figured this question would come up. And I've been meaning to write some snippets of FAQ for others to read. ><
Yes, in the normal universe the Dauntless was destroyed by a hurricane while Norrington was pursuing the Pearl yet again. Norrington felt disgraced, resigned from the Royal Navy and returned the jolly ol' bloke we see in the second movie.
However, I've always felt that he just had too much bad happen to him, and for no good reason really. I mean, all he did was love Elizabeth, right? So, in the alternate universe I wanted there to be some good for him, but I need to do it without changing the plot too much.
Yes, the Dauntless has been thought to have been destroyed, just thought. And eventually, when Norrington brings the Heart to Beckett, in return, Beckett will give the Dauntless back to him. <3
As to what really happened to it, I haven't thought that all the way through yet. xD Probably something along the lines of it being hit rather hard, and it seemed to have sunk, but really didn't. Yeah... Something like that.

Okay, thank you. You've cleared a lot up for me.
I like your point about the fact that most of the bad things that happened to Norrington were unnecessary, because quite frankly, I couldn't agree more. And the fact that you've given us the option of letting canons who died in AWE live in this alternate universe is music to my ears. One of the main reasons why I like AU.
But in all seriousness, Will and Elizabeth are the better couple.

I actually like Norrington as a person. >< He's not a bad guy or anything, just doing what he's been trained too. : And yes! One reason I wanted AU was because he was killed, and I was like: "D8 NYUUUUUUU!" in the theatre when I saw it all that time ago. ;_;

Yeah. Most of my friends didn't like him. "Too annoying," "too stiff," or whatever it was. Some people just can't appreciate a complex character.
Oh, jeez. You should have seen me in the theater. Just my luck that the characters I love always get killed off, no matter what. I pretty much sobbed through the rest of the movie after his death scene. And I'm the type of person who never sheds a tear at cinema. Ever.
